A Gift of the Harvest

I deeply love the autumn time of transitions – green to fiery red, busy to still, the mystery of silence that draws us into itself as the birds fly and leave us with only those dabs of poetry we have conjured from their brilliant song.  We are so certain we will remember these instants of glory.  But do we?

As we gather, and hunker, and try to smooth the way towards the holidays, I invite you to pause with me.  To remember.  To allow the passing of your life to be observed at close range for a day.  Take your inner garden to a place of slow, deep calm.  Embrace “impossible things” in the small pocket of a Saturday (yes, you can do this!)

Remember your favorite things.  Recollect where you feel most at home.

Re-open the box of those promises you have made to yourself and perhaps let slide in the busy-ness of serving others.

If you are in the thicket of discernment, come, sit, and give yourself the best possible setting in which to ponder and receive.

On Saturday, November 14, I will welcome a small group to the quiet and deeply satisfying adventure of the personal journal….that companion of our days, the empty page that allows us to speak to the Divine, and to listen for those revelations that shimmer through the mystery of being alive, if we but slow down and pay attention.

We will spend time in quiet contemplation, in several exercises — both playful and serious.  There will be no forced sharing, no forced anything.   This day is for you, and you will leave with a small kit of practices for your winter days by the fire or the tea kettle.

Join me!

    Dear Kathleen,

How I wish that I could be there! I need to renew my daily journaling…although I need to do it online due to arthritis in my left hand that make physical writing difficult. I haven’t found a lot of chances for days like this in Michigan. I often think of you and that Christmas Eve we shared in the same pew at Trinity in 2019, and your lovely note to me after.

    Blessings,
    Judy Plotner

I remember it as if it was yesterday, Judy. Are you in Michigan permanently? I’m thinking of something online in January. Let me know if the would be of interest!

      Blessings to you,
      Kathleen
