Learning thanks as the key to simplicity

What beginning,

this time out of time

at chapter’s end?

All of the anniversaries

are over, the flowers

past,

the olives and oranges

consumed.

My footstep breaks

off – soon will be my time.

Approaching this question

of faithfulness

in my right mind

today, I say thank you —

for the peonies

and the paint boxes

The kittens and the astonishing

children

(I say thank you)

for the strength

to let go,

for the credibility

of what in time

remains, what

out of time

endures.

Today
