Discover the spiritual gifts in the austere beauty and power of Lent.
The wilderness journey of Lent invites radical simplicity….a chance to review your life’s purpose, the gift of clarifying vision.
Guided by poetry, contemplative offerings, and time for journaling, participants will explore their key temptations, the healing practices they need for this time in their lives, and a chance to create their visions of new ways to love their lives.
Join me for 6 Friday lunchtime sessions on zoom.
What in your life wants to come alive in ways you can’t yet imagine?
Autumn yields to the time of darkness.
Advent is both a season, and a journey.
When we enter and traverse its timeless maps with mindfulness and intention, it can become a crucible for our own transformation.
Join me at lunchtime the 4 Fridays of this Advent to explore your beginner’s mind, the ways you are being led through darkness, the healing company of women, angels and a few good men, and the labors of love to which you are being called.

An 8-Week Workshop
Thursday, June 8 to July 27, 6 to 7 p.m. ONLINE
Join me at the end of your day with some deep breathing and space to unwind in your journal! This evening workshop is for those who can’t make the early Friday morning session. We will spend a quiet hour in mindfulness meditation and gently guided prompts. You’ll leave with a sense of stillness, ready for sleep and a bright new day.
Our journeys are fluid and laden. The questions that wake us in the night, don’t leave us alone until we have heard the name that is uniquely our own, like Jacob wrestling with the angel. To paraphrase Gaugin: Where do I come from? What am I becoming? Where am I going?
Beneath the surface stories that we construct for ease and short-hand there lie in each of us infinitely deeper truths and unclaimed wisdom. In this workshop we will use a variety of exercises to draw these depths to the surface – as images, symbols, dropped narratives. With these, we will create one or more pieces, each an illuminated texts of our lives. Guided through stages of drafting, sharing, and refining, participants will leave the workshop able to develop their pieces into larger collections or a longer project.
with Susan Porter and Kathleen Hirsch
In this day-long workshop, we will celebrate the un-mined stories that live in us, using writing prompts and a rich array of visual materials to explore emerging themes and narratives. Our process will combine different media, including color work, mark-making, visual journaling and writing. Students will explore various story genres through prompts, individual creative time, and sharing. By day’s end, participants will have completed a simple handmade book, one story, and several working drafts that they can complete at home.
Susan Porter’s multi-dimensional art journals blur boundaries between collage, printmaking and book arts. She teaches others how to use color, imagery, and text to create their own one-of-a-kind journals. Her work can be viewed at coloringbooksandjournals.com.
